Who we are
idkchat is a website chat assistant operated at idkchat.com.
Questions about this policy or your data: use the chat on our
contact page and leave your name and email — a person will reply.
If you visit this website
- The chat widget assigns your browser a random identifier (stored in your
browser's localStorage) so a conversation can continue across pages. It is not
tied to your name unless you choose to leave contact details.
- We record the pages you view on this site (path only — query strings and
fragments are stripped before anything is sent), which parts of a page you spend
a few seconds on (named by the page's own headings or menu links), how long each
page stays open, messages you type into the chat, and any name, email and message
you submit in the chat's contact form.
- Your IP address is processed for rate limiting and abuse protection, and stored
with your visit record.
- Chat messages, together with the relevant help content, are sent to an AI
service to generate the reply. Contact-form submissions are not sent to any AI —
they go to the site's team by email.
- We can ask IDK's AI to summarize this site's own visitor activity — for example,
which pages and questions get the most interest, or an overview of one visitor's
visits. It works only on this site's records, describes what people looked at and
asked (never guesses at what they intend), and is never used for advertising.
If you create an account
- We store your email address (used for passwordless sign-in links), your
business name, and the content you give your bot.
- Sign-in uses a session cookie. There are no advertising or cross-site
tracking cookies anywhere on this site.
- Your bot's visitor records, transcripts and contact submissions are yours: you
can view, export and archive them from your dashboard at any time. Archiving hides
a record from your dashboard; it does not erase it. To have records erased, ask
us through the chat on our contact page.
- If an account is deleted, its bots and everything they collected are deleted
with it. The record of credits bought and used is kept, because it is a financial
record.
If you try the demo
A demo bot built before you sign up is removed automatically if you don't save it:
an untrained one after about a day, a trained one after up to 7 days (14 if you
confirmed your email), on the next cleanup after that time. Saving the demo to an
account keeps it.
If you chat with a bot on a customer's website
The same mechanics apply, but that site's owner is responsible for the data —
idkchat processes it on their behalf. Contact them first; if you can't reach
them, reach us through the chat on our contact page.
That site's owner can see the pages you viewed on their site, what you asked and
any details you left, and can ask IDK's AI to summarize that activity. It works only
within that one site's own records: nothing is combined across sites, and nothing is
used for advertising.
Retention and deletion
Visitor records and transcripts are kept until erasure is requested — archiving
hides them from the dashboard but keeps them. Sign-in links expire within minutes
and work once. To have your data removed from this site, ask for it in the chat on
our contact page and we'll delete it.
What we don't do
No selling of data, no advertising networks, no tracking you across other
websites.
